Sicily – Wildlife at Leisure with Greentours

From 3 April 2026
to 10 April 2026
All-day event
Location: Sicily, Italy

Alice looks forward to a return trip to Sicily to lead a Wildlife at Leisure tour for Greentours alongside Stefano Doglio. These tours take a relaxed pace and balance the wildlife and botany with time to socialise and enjoy the local culture and food in the evenings.

In spring, Monte Ible's dry limestone slopes are ablaze with flowers. Anemones, Irises and Asphodels are abundant in the abandoned fields and terraces above Syracusa, some of which also boast a dozen or more orchid species. Stunning Pink Butterfly Orchids are joined by Giant and Man Orchids. Sicily is a hotspot in bee orchid evolution with profuse Sawfly Orchid, colourful Ophrys bertolonii and fur-rimmed Mirror Orchid. Yellow-edged Ophrys biancae, Ophrys lunulata and Ophrys lacaitae are found nowhere else.

We'll explore limestone gorges, wooded valleys and coastal reserves where dune flora will keep us busy when we're not looking at Flamingos, Black-winged Stilts and Slender-billed Gulls!

If you want an insight into what we might see, you might like the blog that Alice wrote about a previous trip, Sunny Spring in Sicily: a floral wonderland.
