Flora and Butterflies of the Vercors holiday with Greenwings
The Vercors is a limestone massif in the Pre-Alps and is a favourite area of Alice’s. Join her on this Flora and Butterflies of the Vercors holiday with Greenwings to take in some of the best spots. Wildflower highlights include numerous orchids such as Lady’s Slipper, Coral Root, Bird’s Nest, Globe, Elder-flowered, Frog and several Helleborines, among others. Other floral highlights include Martagon Lily, Herb Paris, Lily-of-the-Valley and many more. There’s also a wonderful array of butterflies, with early season species like Chequered Skipper and Duke of Burgundy mingling with summer highlights like Apollo, Marbled Fritillary, Woodland Brown and Scarce Copper. This part of France is rich in biodiversity, and we may also see birds like Alpine Swift, Griffon Vulture and Crested Tit, or mammals such as Chamois or Marmot if we’re lucky. Weather-permitting, a moth trap with be run in the hotel garden too.
If you’re interested in what we might encounter, you might like to read a blog from a past journey to the area, The Vercors, a little-known treasure trove in southeast France.
