Sardinia with Greentours
Join Alice in exploring the beautiful Italian island of Sardinia with Greentours this spring in search of wildflowers (especially orchids), birds, reptiles and amphibians and more! The ‘lost world’ of the Giara di Gesturi is a landscape as unexpected as it is strangely beautiful. Outcrops of pinky-black basalt and prehistoric ‘nuraghi’ emerge from marshy meadows and dwarf Cork Oak woodlands on plateaux two thousand feet above sea level. Among it all, we find a range of beautiful flowers including Romulea and Crocus, endemic Peonies, and a beguiling variety of orchids, ranging from small green Gennaria diphylla to aptly named Giant Orchid via a range of pretty bee orchids such as the endemic Ophrys chestermannii.
Alice has written a blog about a personal trip to a different part of the island on which she encountered a few of the same species as can be expected on this holiday: Wild Sardinia.
