The Vercors is a limestone massif in the Pre-Alps and is a favourite area of Alice's. Join her on this Flora and Butterflies of the Vercors holiday with Greenwings to take in some of the best spots. Wildflower highlights include numerous orchids such as Lady's Slipper, Coral Root, Bird's Nest, Globe, Elder-flowered, Frog and several Helleborines, among others. Other floral highlights include Martagon Lily, Herb Paris, Lily-of-the-Valley and many more. There's also a wonderful array of butterflies, with early season species like Chequered Skipper and Duke of Burgundy mingling with summer highlights like Apollo, Marbled Fritillary, Woodland Brown and Scarce Copper. This part of France is rich in biodiversity, and we may also see birds like Alpine Swift, Griffon Vulture and Crested Tit, or mammals such as Chamois or Marmot if we're lucky. Weather-permitting, a moth trap with be run in the hotel garden too.

If you're interested in what we might encounter, you might like to read a blog from a past journey to the area, The Vercors, a little-known treasure trove in southeast France.

Cyprus in Spring holiday with Greenwings

From 27 February 2026
to 6 March 2026
All-day event
Location: Southern Cyprus

Join Alice escaping winter to explore Aphrodite's Isle, where spring comes early and orchids abound. Alongside a wide range of species, including endemic and regional specialities such as Orchis punctulata, Ophrys elegans and Ophrys kotschyi, there's a great range of other spring flowers to enjoy, including Tulips, Crocuses and more. Butterflies such as Paphos Blue and Eastern Festoon will be on the wing, and among the birds, we can expect to see species such as Cyprus Wheatear, Sardinian Warbler, Zitting Cisticola, Chukar and Black Francolin, and we may encounter migratory species like Siberian Stonechat or Black Redstart. We'll also take in some culture with a visit to the ruins of Kourion, one of the island’s most important city-kingdoms in antiquity. The Cyprus in Spring holiday with Greenwings is designed for a leisurely pace to enable photography and enjoy all aspects of the island and its nature.

For an insight into the species you might see, you might enjoy reading the two blogs Alice wrote about other travels to the island at the same time of year and visiting some of the same areas. Cyprus in Spring Part 1 and Cypriot Spring Part 2.
